Barnes and Boogie are being sued. USATSI

Sacramento Kings veteran forward Matt Barnes found himself in trouble with the law again this week and now it looks like teammate DeMarcus Cousins is being dragged into his mess.

Barnes allegedly choked a "possible girlfriend" at Avenue nightclub in New York City in the early morning on Dec. 5. The Kings veteran allegedly also punched a couple who were near the original altercation and tried to break it up. Cousins was at the club with Barnes but both left shortly after the alleged assault. The NYPD has issued no arrests though and there have been no reports if the police have questioned Barnes yet.

But while the NYPD is conducting its investigation, the couple that Barnes allegedly punched -- Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell -- is suing both Barnes and Cousins and filed a civil lawsuit against both Kings players in New York Southern District Court.

Since the incident became public, Barnes has maintained his innocence and even went on Instagram to plead his case:

The Kings are standing by their player as of now while investigating the alleged assault as well. The team hasn't taken any action against Cousins or Barnes as both played in Sacramento's 120-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.
