LeBron James had a record-breaking season in 2022-23 when he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time scoring mark. As the 2023-24 campaign gets underway Tuesday, the Los Angeles Lakers star has a chance to break a handful of other records throughout the season.

During his 21st NBA season, James can set new NBA career records for minutes played (regular season and playoffs), games played (regular season and playoffs), attempted field goals (regular season) and missed field goals (regular season).

James currently holds the playoff records for both minutes and games played. The 38-year-old also is third and ninth on the regular season lists for both of those categories.

It's also possible James could end up playing more than any other players in NBA history. Abdul-Jabbar currently holds the records with 66,297 minutes in 1,797 games. James needs to log 550 minutes and 94 games in order to break both of those marks. For a player that appeared in 71 regular-season games last year, it's certainly an attainable mark in the near future.

James also needs just 263 field-goal attempts in order to shatter Abdul-Jabbar's regular-season record of 28,307. The Lakers forward will also pass Kobe Bryant's career record of 14,481 missed field goals with 589 more to his credit. During the 2022-23 season, James missed 610 of his 1,219 field goal attempts.

James is also just 1,348 points away from 40,000 over the course of his career. He is also closing in on several other milestones, including:

  • 580 assists away from 11,000 for his career

  • 333 rebounds away from 11,000 for his career

  • 252 free-throw attempts away from Shaquille O'Neal (11,252) for third on the all-time list

  • 291 made free throws away from Kobe Bryant (8,378) for third on the all-time list

  • 121 steals away from Scottie Pippen (2,307) for seventh on the all-time list

It's safe to say James is cementing himself as one of the top players to ever step onto an NBA court. With the Lakers star still playing at an elite level, it's quite likely he breaks a few of these records throughout the 2023-24 season.
