Maybe you heard, but LeBron’s got another decision to make, and despite being spurned the first time around, a contingent of Cleveland Cavaliers fans are trying to lure him away from South Beach.
Beginning with Wednesday night’s Heat-Cavs game in Cleveland, a team of four forgiving Cavs fans will launch a campaign titled, “Come Home LeBron.”
The group is passing out 2,000 neon t-shirts – likely to dot Quicken Loans Arena – in an attempt to sway public opinion, which, understandably is a risky undertaking. The shirts are just the beginning, though.
From the Akron Beacon Journal, “On Monday, a 'Come Home LeBron' billboard will go up near James’ alma mater, St. Vincent St. Mary High School, for four or eight weeks. Another is slated for Interstate-71.”
The group hopes to pass out 10,000 shirts on March 18, the last regular season meeting in Cleveland between the two teams. The group isn’t interested in making money, per the paper, but is interested in seeking a sponsor to help cover the more than $50,000 they plan to spend.
Contrary to popular belief, public opinion of James has actually begun to defrost following his staged departure on ESPN in 2010. During a game last March, one fan even ran onto the court and pleaded with James to return this upcoming summer.
When asked about the movement prior to Wednesday’s meeting, James responded:
LeBron talked to reporters for 10 minutes, says it's still weird to go into #Cavs visiting locker room, he's humbled by "Come Home LeBron."— M.S. Boyer/J. Valade (@PDcavsinsider) November 27, 2013
