Once again, the Golden State Warriors have broken a record held by the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls.

Winning 73 games, the Warriors broke the Bulls' hallowed 72-win single-season record and after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday, Golden State now has the record for most wins combined in a single season. The record of 87 combined wins - regular season and postseason - was previously held by that Bulls team but the Warriors have now surpassed that mark with 88 wins.

One reason the Warriors have broken the record is because until 2003, the NBA used a best-of-five format in the first round so the Bulls had one less win in the postseason. But that's just how the NBA has evolved and doesn't invalidate Golden State's record, which they will likely extend to 89 wins if they defeat the Cavs in the Finals.
