  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Shot to death Saturday morning

Dejean-Jones died early Saturday morning in Dallas after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Sarah Mervosh of The Dallas Morning News reports.

According to the report, a man shot Dejean-Jones in self-defense after the Pelicans guard "kicked open the front door" of the man's apartment at 3:20 a.m. Dejean-Jones was able to run out of the apartment, but ended up collapsing and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead after suffering extensive blood loss. Undrafted out of Iowa State, Dejean-Jones, 23, overcame the odds to earn a spot on the Pelicans roster in January following a stint in the D-League. He went on to play in 14 games (starting in 11), and averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game before suffering a season-ending wrist injury. It's a tragic day for the Pelicans and the NBA family.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Done for season

Dejean-Jones underwent surgery to repair a fractured right wrist Friday, and he'll miss the remainder of the season.

Due to a number of additional Pelicans injuries, Dejean-Jones found a spot in the rotation as a rookie, appearing in 14 games and making 11 starts before the wrist fracture. He'll conclude the season with averages of 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game. The undrafted, Iowa State product signed a multi-year deal last week after the trade deadline, so he figures to be back in the mix for what could be a new-look Pelicans team in 2016-17.

Dejean-Jones underwent an MRI on Thursday that revealed a fractured right wrist that will require surgery Friday. The team plans to release a timetable following the surgery.

However, the undrafted rookie out of Iowa State suffered a wrist injury against the 76ers on Feb. 19 and though he has played through it for two games, he will have to undergo surgery Friday. With Dejean-Jones out for the time being, Toney Douglas and Alonzo Gee figure to pick up some extra minutes at shooting guard.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Probable for Thursday's tilt

Dejean-Jones (wrist) is probable to play in Thursday's matchup with the Thunder.

Dejean-Jones suffered a wrist injury in last Friday's win over Philadelphia. While he missed part of Friday's game due to the injury, he played through the injury in Sunday's game against Detroit. Listing him on the injury report is likely just a precaution, and he shouldn't be expected to miss any time.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Officially signs with Pels

Dejean-Jones officially re-signed with the Pelicans on Friday.

Per the team's release, the terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Dejean-Jones is believed to have signed a three-year deal, with the third year non-guaranteed. The undrafted, Iowa State product has appeared in 11 games for New Orleans this season, making eight starts while the team has dealt with several key injuries. Dejean-Jones' future was in limbo over the All-Star break, as the Pelicans waited to see if they'd have a roster spot for him following the trade deadline, but his future is now set, and he'll remain in New Orleans for the foreseeable future. • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Expected to sign three-year deal with Pelicans

Dejean-Jones is expected to sign a three-year, partially guaranteed deal with the Pelicans, Shams Charania of Yahoo.com reports.

Despite the delay following the end of his second 10-day contract, Dejean-Jones is expected to get the multi-year deal that he was looking for. The Pelicans plan to sign him to a partially guaranteed deal for the first two years, while the third year remains unguaranteed. Once officially signed, he'll continue to vie for the starting shooting guard spot with Eric Gordon (finger) out and Tyreke Evans (knee) done for the season. In 11 games (eight starts) with the Pelicans this season, Dejean-Jones is averaging 6.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.8 steals over 20 minutes. It remains questionable if he'll be available for Friday's matchup with the 76ers.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Still not with team

Dejean-Jones isn't an official member of the Pelicans as of Wednesday, and the team is expected to wait until after the trade deadline to address his contract situation, the New Orleans Advocate reports.

Dejean-Jones is in a unique situation, as he's already signed a pair of 10-day deals with the Pelicans, meaning if the team wants to keep him around, they'll need to sign him for the remainder of the season. The two sides met prior to the All-Star Game, and Dejean-Jones' camp is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal, while the Pelicans are hesitant to commit, given their desire to keep a roster spot open should they make a deal prior to Thursday's deadline. The belief is that Dejean-Jones would prefer to stay with New Orleans, but if the Pelicans wait too long or refuse to commit to a longer-term deal, the rookie could explore an opportunity elsewhere. More should be known about Dejean-Jones' status once the trade deadline passes at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Won't play Thursday due to contract dispute

Dejean-Jones isn't expected to play in Thursday's game against the Thunder due to a contract dispute, Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate reports.

Dejean-Jones' second 10-day contract with the Pelicans expired following Wednesday's 100-96 win over the Jazz, during which the rookie put up nine points (3-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT). While he's since taken hold of the starting role at shooting guard while Tyreke Evans (knee) has been sidelined, Dejean-Jones is only averaging 6.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.8 steals over 19.9 minutes in 11 appearances, production that might make the Pelicans reluctant to sign the 23-year-old to the two- or three-year deal he appears to be seeking, according to Kushner. The Pelicans will continue to negotiate with Dejean-Jones and his agent over the break to see if an agreement on a new deal can be reached.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Scores one point in loss to Cavs

Dejean-Jones provided one point (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two assists, and one rebound across 20 minutes in Saturday's 99-84 loss to the Cavaliers.

Dejean-Jones has looked solid at times as the replacement in the starting five for the injured Tyreke Evans (knee), and while he'll likely stick in that role at least until the All-Star break, his appeal remains limited to deeper formats. In his six starts, Dejean-Jones is averaging 9.5 points (on 44.4% shooting from the field), 4.8 boards, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 steals across 30.2 minutes.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Tallies 17 points in Thursday loss

Dejean-Jones tallied 17 points (6-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-8 FT), nine rebounds, an assist and two steals over 43 minutes in Thursday's 99-96 loss to the Lakers.

The 23-year-old has been a nice find for the Pelicans in the wake of Eric Gordon's finger injury, and helped keep New Orleans afloat Thursday on a night where multiple starters struggled. Both the minutes and the point total were season highs, while his nine rebounds equaled the amount he'd hauled in against the Nets on Jan. 30. Dejean-Jones appears to be guaranteed an appreciable amount of playing time for the time being with Gordon's continued absence, and has proven to be a nice source of rebounds so far, particularly for a two-guard. He's now averaging 7.4 points and 4.0 rebounds over 21.1 minutes over the eight games he's appeared in, with five of those being starts.

  • Pelicans' Bryce Dejean-Jones: Plays 23 minutes in Wednesday's start

Dejean-Jones managed eight points (3-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 23 minutes during the Pelicans' 110-97 loss to the Spurs on Wednesday.

Dejean-Jones has earned 30 minutes per contest over the last four games, and he is contributing 9.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals 1.3 assists, and 0.3 blocks per appearance. The 23-year-old guard seems like a fairly decent bet to be signed for the remainder of the season by a Pelicans team that has once again been ravaged by injuries, but he probably shouldn't be relied on in fantasy unless he maintains this high minute load and improves his per-game production.
