The other day we told you that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson cautioned running back LeSean McCoy to learn from Jackson’s experience in 2011 and not to hold out from Philadelphia training camp.

Looks like McCoy listened, as the Eagles official website broke some rather significant news Thursday evening.

According to multiple reports, the deal is a five-year extension worth $45 million (with guaranteed money of $20.765 million). McCoy is now under contract through the 2017 season.

McCoy’s contract is similar to the newest deals signed by Texans running back Arian Foster (five years, $43.5 million, $20.75 million guaranteed), Carolina’s DeAngelo Williams (five years, $43 million, $21 million guaranteed) and Jackson (five years, $48.5 million, $15 million).

And you have to give credit to the Eagles -- and CBSSports.com colleague Clark Judge agrees. Showing why I ranked them No. 7 in the top-10 front offices post, Philadelphia continues to lock up the young talent on its roster.

Remember, McCoy is only 23 years old, and he’s coming off a season in which he set a franchise record with 20 total touchdowns and finished fourth in the league in rushing with 1,309 yards. He also caught 78 passes and posted a team record 5.2 yards per carry.

“We are excited to continue this offseason of taking care of our own players,” coach Andy Reid said in a statement. “LeSean is one of the most electrifying running backs in the National Football League. He can do it all -- run, catch, block and score touchdowns from anywhere on the field. He’s worked extremely hard to turn himself into a Pro Bowl running back and he is well deserving of this contract extension. I give a lot of credit to Howie Roseman and Drew Rosenhaus for hammering out this deal.”

But McCoy is only the latest for Philadelphia to keep around.

Honestly, Jackson's new deal is not too bad for a guy who’s fired agent Drew Rosenhaus twice.

Which he addressed at his Thursday night news conference.

“We have a crazy relationship," McCoy said. "We broke up time after time. But we always made up."

Two more quotes from McCoy's media gathering:

On whether DeSean Jackson talked to McCoy about not holding out: “We’re great friends. Everybody handles things differently. We never really got into [contract discussions]. Me as a person, the way I was raised, I do things the right way. The team knew I wanted a new deal. I work hard in practice and play my heart out. I try to do the right things by showing up and being a team guy. It wasn’t like I had to act like I was a different person. I was being myself."

On how important it was to be one of the highest-paid backs in the league: "Both of these guys [pointing to Reid and general manager Howie Richman] can tell you I'm one of the best."

Responded Reid: "He'll have to get a bigger helmet."
