The Washington Capitals won their eighth straight game on Monday night to increase their lead in the Eastern Conference and moved to within one point of the best record in the league.

Thanks to goals from Alex Ovechkin and Jay Beagle and another spectacular night from starting goaltender Braden Holtby the Capitals were able to pick up a 2-0 win in Buffalo.

For Holtby, it was his second shutout of the season and he needed one of the season's best glove saves in the closing seconds to preserve it.

With less than a minute to play, Sabres forward Evander Kane was wide open along the side of the net and looked ready to score his ninth goal of the season to at least get his team on the board.

It was at that point that Holtby's glove came out of nowhere and snatched the puck out of mid-air for his 30th save of the night.

Holtby has developed into one of the best goalies in the league and is a big reason why the Capitals are one of the top Stanley Cup contenders in the NHL.
