  • Tom Gilbert: Jettisons for Germany

Gilbert reached a deal with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers of Germany's DEL on Friday, theScore reports.

Gilbert's racked up the frequent flyer miles over the years, as he's been associated with seven different NHL organizations. His final appearance at hockey's highest level came with the Kings last season, and he made a brief run with AHL Ontario before skipping over to Washington's minor-league affiliate in Hershey. A mobile minute-munching defenseman in his heyday, Gilbert's NHL career included 198 points (45 goals, 178 assists) in 655 games.

  • Capitals' Tom Gilbert: Dealt to Washington

The Kings traded Gilbert to the Capitals on Wednesday for a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2017, and he'll start out with AHL Hershey.

The low-end defenseman was waived by the Kings at the beginning of February, so it's a bit curious that the Caps didn't bid for his services at that time. At any rate, the 11th-year journeyman won't be taken seriously in the fantasy realm given that he's shaping up to be a minor-league depth option.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Waived by team

Gilbert was placed on waivers Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Gilbert has cracked the lineup a mere 18 times this season, including making just one appearance in the Kings' last 17 outings. The defender will likely be reassigned to AHL Ontario if he clears. Without any additional blue-line depth, Los Angeles will likely call up another player unless Matt Greene (undisclosed) is ready to be activated off IR.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Struggling to get into Kings lineup

Gilbert hasn't dressed in 11 straight contests and has seen action in just nine of the Kings' last 20 games since returning from a three-game suspension in November.

Gilbert's tallied just five points (a goal and four assists) in 17 games this season as he's struggled to separate himself from a group of depth blueliners in the Kings' bottom pair. There's little reason to expect any more production given his current role.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Eligible to return Thursday

Gilbert has served his three game suspension, and is eligible to return to the Kings' lineup for Thursday's game against the Canadiens, TSN 690's Amanda Stein reports.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter declined to confirm whether Gilbert would be in the lineup for Thursday's tilt, indicating the 33-year-old blueliner may end up being a healthy scratch for the contest. The 2002 fourth-round pick has been a solid contributor for the Kings this season, notching three assists in eight games while averaging 2:04 of ice time on the man advantage.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Suspended three games

Gilbert was suspended by the league for three games on Thursday for boarding Nick Ritchie during a 4-0 loss to the Ducks on Tuesday night, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.

Gilbert launched himself at Ritchie's back and into the boards during Tueday's game, leading to a player safety hearing and the subsequent suspension. Gilbert's play has been passable for Los Angeles this year, as he's posted three assists in eight games while averaging 16:31 of ice time, so this is less of a blow to fantasy owners than it is to the Kings, whose defense has been reeling since the loss of Brayden McNabb (upper body). Gilbert will be eligible to return on November 10th in Montreal.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Notches assist in overtime victory

Gilbert picked up an assist while skating 15:06 during Thursday's 4-3 overtime victory in Dallas.

A healthy scratch in the season's first two games, Gilbert's gotten in the lineup twice in a row now and has surprisingly picked up a pair of helpers while seeing big power-play minutes. It's hard to see that continuing, though, as the 33-year-old blueliner has enjoyed precious little time on the man advantage over the past couple seasons and generally offers little on the offensive end. Indeed, he's equaled last year's point total already -- Gilbert notched a goal and an assist over 45 games with Montreal in 2015-16.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Rides pine once again Saturday

Gilbert was benched for Friday's home game against the Flyers, NHL.com reports.

Gilbert also missed Wednesday's season opener against the Sharks, but there's no injury to report with the 33-year-old. It's likely going to take some time for the veteran defender to get his conditioning up to par following a long offseason rehabbing a knee ailment.

  • Kings' Tom Gilbert: Heads to L.A. on one-year deal

Gilbert (knee) signed a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the Kings on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.

Gilbert is a steady and unspectacular, bottom-pairing defender who'll hopefully be better on the ice than in fantasy. He played just 45 games in 2015-16 because of a knee injury, and delivered just one goal and one assist.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Out six months following surgery

Gilbert had surgery on his left knee Wednesday and is expected to need six months to recover.

The operation reportedly was performed by Dr. James Andrews, a renowned orthopedic surgeon in the sports world. Montreal was starting to rely more heavily on Gilbert, as he averaged 19:11 of ice time in nine February games -- more than a two-minute boost against his season average -- before sustaining the knee injury last Friday in a game against the Flyers. Greg Pateryn, who skated for 21:38 in the last game, could see the largest minutes boost on the blue line now that Gilbert is out of the picture.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Out for rest of season

Gilbert will undergo left knee surgery and miss the remainder of the season, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

It's unclear exactly what Gilbert is dealing with but he'll be limited to 45 outings during the 2015-16 season nonetheless. Greg Pateryn now seems to be locked into the regular lineup in the absence of Gilbert, with Victor Bartley also in the mix to help out on occasion after receiving the related promotion to Montreal on Monday.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Won't play Monday

Gilbert (lower body) won't play in Monday's game against the Predators, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Not much of an impact-player in most season-long formats, Gilbert provides a bit more value to those playing daily contests with his willingness to block shots (88 on the season). Mark Barberio will draw into the lineup in his place, but doesn't provide much upside either. Gilbert will now aim to return for the team's next game Wednesday against the Capitals, but the team should update the defenseman's status again over the next couple days.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Non-participant at Sunday's practice

Gilbert (lower body) did not participate in Sunday's practice, the Montreal Gazette reports.

Gilbert suffered a lower-body injury during Friday's game. There's been no update on his condition, so it's likely he'll be held out of Monday's home game against Nashville.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Exits with lower-body injury

Gilbert has been ruled out of the remainder of Friday's game against the Flyers with a lower-body injury, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

The Canadiens will hope Gilbert's injury doesn't hold him out long term, as he's been one of the team's better defenders this season, registering a plus-4 rating through 44 games, good for third best on the team. The Canadiens should provide an update on the former fourth-round pick's status ahead of Monday's game against the Predators.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Returns to action

Gilbert returned to action Tuesday night after missing 14 games due to a lower-body injury. He had a team-high six blocked shots and two hits in 15:25 TOI in a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia.

The six hits came out of nowhere as Gilbert has just 25 in 37 games played. When active, Gilbert skates on the third defensive pairing and gets time on the penalty-kill unit.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Back in lineup Tuesday

Gilbert (lower body) will take the ice for the Canadiens on Tuesday when they take on Philadelphia.

Gilbert will return after a 14-game absence dating back to Dec. 22. While this may be good news for the Montreal blue line, the 33-year-old has little fantasy value, garnering a singular assist in 36 contests. Additionally, the defenseman averages a mere 16:17 of ice time per game, almost 10 minutes less than starter P.K. Subban.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Returns to practice Friday

Gilbert (lower body) returned to practice Friday and is now considered "day-to-day," Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Officially, Gilbert remains on injured reserve, but his "day-to-day" label suggests that he's not far away from being activated. Unfortunately, he has just one assist for his only point in 36 games this season.

  • Canadiens' Tom Gilbert: Expected back in two weeks

Gilbert (lower body) is expected to be ready to play in approximately two weeks, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Gilbert was sidelined Dec. 23 because of the lower-body issue, and hasn't returned to the ice since that point. It appears he can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, but the team should continue to update the blueliner's status as he nears a return to the lineup.
