Rising American soccer star Gio Reyna was expected to start for Borussia Dortmund against Schalke, but the 17-year-old was a late scratch due to a leg muscle injury which isn't believed to be a serious issue at this stage, sources in Germany tell CBS Sports. He'll continue to be evaluated by the club to determine if it was his hamstring, calf or another leg muscle that caused him to sit out Saturday's match.

He picked up a knock while warming up and did not make the starting lineup or the bench, the club announced just before kickoff.

Reyna, who debuted for the club earlier this year, was set for his first league start as he continues to impress in matches and training. He played in both Champions League round of 16 matches against PSG before the break caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The son of former United States men's national team star Claudio Reyna has played in Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal matches this season as well, scoring his first goal in the latter with a stunning hit against Werder Bremen in February.

Thorgan Hazard started in his place, and it worked out for Dortmund as the Belgian international assisted the opening goal by Erling Haaland 28 minutes in and scored the team's third goal in the 48th minute.
