WATCH: Here's the penalty Lionel Messi missed in Argentina's Copa America loss

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Lionel Messi's Argentina nightmare carries on. So much so that he announced after Sunday's Copa America final loss that he's decided to quit the Argentina national team.

Argentina lost a cup final for the third consecutive year, this time falling in the Copa America final to Chile in penalty kicks. Argentina lost 4-2 from the spot after 120 minutes at 0-0, and Messi missed Argentina's first penalty kick when the team had a chance to go up 1-0, which sparked plenty of memes. He sent it into the stands uncharacteristically as his nation's title drought continues. Check it out.

There is really no explaining that. He is as good from the spot as anyone else. Argentina had chances to win it in regulation, but when it goes to penalty kicks anything can happen, with Messi looking like the reason why Argentina lost it. And after the miss, the superstar showed his vulnerable side, breaking down in tears.

Usually it would be great to be Messi. But not on a night like this.
