- Padres: As our MLB insider reported, former Rangers exec A.J. Preller has accepted a five-year deal to become the next GM of the Padres. 

INJURY UPDATES

- Astros: OF George Springer, who's been on the DL since July 23 with a strained quad, tweaked that same quad during a Triple-A rehab game. (Evan Drellich via Twitter)

- Braves: The team is hoping that SS Andrelton Simmons's ankle injury won't force him to the DL. (David O'Brien via Twitter)

- Marlins: RHP Jarred Cosart was scratched from his scheduled Thursday start because of a minor left oblique injury. (Joe Frisaro, MLB.com)

- Mets: RHP Matt Harvey (Tommy John surgery in 2013) had a positive 20-pinch bullpen session on Tuesday. 

- Phillies: As Todd Zolecki and Reid Laymance of MLB.com write, the locker of LHP Cliff Lee (elbow) had been cleaned out prior to Wednesday's game, which may indicate that he's done for the rest of the season. 

- Rockies: SS Troy Tulowitzki (left hip flexor) was able to take a full round of batting practice on Wednesday. (Nick Groke, Denver Post)

- Athletics: Owner Lew Wolff says he recently met with an architect to discuss a new ballpark at the current Coliseum site. 

- Cubs: Have reportedly claimed RHP Jacob Turner off waivers from the Marlins ... The Cubs have designated OF Nate Schierholtz for assignment. 

- Dodgers: Have designated INF Chone Figgins for assignment. 

- Rays, Red Sox, Yankees: Leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, GMs Andrew Friedman and Ben Cherington were reportedly free to trade respective aces David Price and Jon Lester to any team except the Yankees.
