What to Know

The Eastern Michigan Eagles are 3-9 against the Ball State Cardinals since January of 2016, but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit Saturday. EMU and Ball State will face off in a Mid-American battle at 3:30 p.m. ET at Convocation Center. The Eagles will be strutting in after a victory while Ball State will be stumbling in from a defeat.

After constant struggles on the road, EMU has finally found some success away from home. They snuck past the Western Michigan Broncos with an 85-79 win on Tuesday. EMU got double-digit scores from four players: guard Noah Farrakhan (25), guard Bryce McBride (18), guard Darion Spottsville (11), and forward Thomas Binelli (11).

Meanwhile, the Cardinals entered their game against the Kent State Golden Flashes on Tuesday without any home losses -- but there's a first time for everything. Ball State was just a bucket shy of a victory and fell 66-65 to Kent State. Guard Tyler Cochran put forth a good effort for the losing side as he had 23 points along with nine boards.

Barring any buzzer beaters, EMU is expected to win a tight contest. There could be an interesting gambling play in this one, as they have done quite well against the spread at home this season while Ball State have struggled against the spread on the road.

EMU is now 6-6 while the Cardinals sit at 6-7. A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Eagles are stumbling into the contest with the 19th most points allowed per game in college basketball, having given up 77 on average. Ball States have had an even harder time: they are 16th worst in college basketball in points allowed per game, with 77.2 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
