Jabarie Hinds among three West Virginia transfers
West Virginia struggled mightily this season, and now three players are leaving -- Jabarie Hinds, Volo Gerun and Aaron Brown.
After a 13-19 season in which West Virginia lost its final seven games, many people expected some attrition from the Mountaineers. That attrition came on Monday afternoon, in the form of three players transferring.
Brown was expected, and it was reported Monday morning by multiple outlets. He was a factor at various points during his freshman season, but he took a step back during his sophomore campaign.
Gerun, a Ukraine native, only played in seven games.
The big one is Hinds, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Mount Vernon, N.Y., who played in all 32 games and averaged 7.4 points. However, his minutes took a major hit late in the season, bottoming out with a scoreless, six-minute effort against Baylor in late February.
With that said, Hinds is a talented lefty guard who can create his own shot and also find teammates. In the next-to-last game of the season against Iowa State, Hinds knocked down four 3-pointers for 19 points and had three assists.
West Virginia does return several solid perimeter players, and Huggins is bringing in a quartet of frontcourt reinforcements for 2013-14. Devin Williams and Elijah Macon are both four-star power forwards who will make immediate impacts.
