Andrew and Aaron Harrison reportedly will visit Maryland for Midnight Madness; are Terps the favorite? (Adidas Nations)

We did a weekly recruiting mailbag back in the spring, but postponed it once the book on 2012 closed and summer events got going on the camp and AAU circuit. With our player and team rankings being released this week, though, we decided to bring it back. Feel free to send your questions for the next mailbag via Twitter (@jeffborzello) or email (jborzello@gmail.com). As you'll see below, all questions are fair game.

@JStuart_23 – North Carolina started strong in 2013, but has gone quiet for a while. What are their prospects like for the rest of the ’13 class?

The Tar Heels began their 2013 class with a bang, receiving commitments from five-star prospects Isaiah Hicks and Nate Britt. Britt’s status has fallen somewhat over the past few months, but he’s still one of the better point guards in the entire class. Hicks has a tremendously high ceiling, and is a top-20 prospect.

Isaiah Hicks is the big name in North Carolina's class right now; who could be next?. (Adidas)

Going forward, North Carolina is still on the lists of both Jabari Parker and Julius Randle, and the Tar Heels have constantly been near the top for No. 1 center Kennedy Meeks. Memphis forward Johnathan Williams III also appeared on the Tar Heels’ radar at the beginning of the summer. Former five-star prospect Troy Williams also is considering North Carolina after postponing his spring decision.

@Derrick_Payne – Any thoughts on Maryland hosting the twins for Midnight Madness?

It certainly can’t hurt the Terrapins’ pursuit of the Harrisons, obviously. Does it make Maryland the leader, ahead of Kentucky? Probably not. Andrew and Aaron both attended Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness last year, so a return trip isn’t completely necessary. Kentucky and Maryland have been the two schools at the forefront of the Harrisons’ recruitment, with the Wildcats long thought to the favorite. They both plan on making their decision on Oct. 29 – two-and-a-half weeks after the Midnight Madness trip to College Park. When it comes down to it, I can’t see the twins making their decision solely based on Midnight Madness. I still think Kentucky is the favorite.

@RankJrank – I’m hearing Andrew Wiggins’ coach say his recruitment is wide open. If that’s the case, why so few seriously chasing him?

Because coaches, recruiting analysts, scouts, etc. all believe it’s going to come down to Kentucky and Florida State, with North Carolina also making a run. If you’re a coach not in Wiggins’ top tier of schools, it might not make sense to waste resources and time on pursuing him. Wiggins has said he likes Florida State and Kentucky on numerous occasions; those two are still the clubhouse leaders.

@EvanDanielsFox – Who is your favorite high school player?

Great question, Evan. I usually like exciting guards, and the class of 2013 is no different. I find myself choosing to watch guys like Conner Frankamp and Duane Wilson if I can, and Aquille Carr is the most exciting player in the class. Outside of point guards, I seem to be higher on long wings like Quinton Stephens and Tim Quarterman. I don’t have “favorites,” per se, but I always tend to like exciting point guards and long, athletic wings.

@TyHumpert – Just how good is Chris Thomas and what are the odds he even makes it to Xavier next year?

Chris Thomas was a five-star prospect in the class of 2013 before he abruptly left South Kent (Conn.) and enrolled at Chipola Junior College (Fla.) in January. He’s a big-time scorer who can get points in a variety of ways. Conversations I’ve had with JucoRecruiting.com’s Brad Winton indicate that Thomas is one of the two or three best players in the junior college ranks this season. As for making it to Xavier, there were some rumors that Thomas could decommit once assistant Rasheen Davis left for Manhattan, but he seems to be on track to be a Musketeer next season.

2014 star Andrew Wiggins is the best high school player in years.  (Nike)

@TheFullTimeDad – Should we just start adding a sixth star near Wiggins’ name? The gap between him and Parker is pretty sizeable.

If a six-star rating didn’t look awkward, Wiggins would be well-suited for that sort of recognition. He’s clearly the best player in 2014, and I don’t think it’s close between him and Jabari Parker for the best prospect regardless of class. Wiggins dominated Julius Randle during their head-to-head matchup this summer, and Randle was one of several players nipping at Parker’s heels in 2013. He simply has enormous potential and is the best high school player I’ve scouted since I began covering recruiting (class of 2008).

Uncfan505@live.com - Do you know a timetable when Jabari Parker might announce his college choice?

Parker, the No. 1 player in the class of 2013, trimmed his list to 10 schools in July, saying that he hoped to make his decision by November. Since then, he’s been taking a few unofficial visits, but hasn’t made much advancement in his recruitment. There is a school of thought that thinks Parker could wait until the spring to sign with a college. For now, I think Michigan State is still the favorite, with Duke also in the mix.

@Paint Touches - Where would Jameel McKay be ranked on that list of top 100 recruits?

McKay, according to JucoRecruiting.com’s Winton, is one of the top three junior college players in the country. He’s athletic, active and can finish around the rim. Coaches I’ve spoken with insist that McKay would be at least a top-75 player in the class of 2013 – and some say he’s even better. His inclusion in Marquette’s recruiting class pushes the Golden Eagles into the top five nationally.

@matts29 – Chances Aquille Carr suits up for Seton Hall?

For now, Carr is still committed to Seton Hall and he has not had his scholarship offer revoked. Pirates’ coach Kevin Willard could wait to see what happens with Carr’s legal troubles – he was arrested in August for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend – or part ways now and look to find other options at point guard. As it stands now, though, Carr is still pledged to Seton Hall.

@RobDauster – When are you finally going to cut your hair?

It’s been more than five months since I got a true haircut, but I’ll admit I did get it cleaned up last week. The sideburns were getting outrageous. It’s still a nice cross between Bradley Cooper, Scott Disick, Gordon Gekko and one of the guys from HGTV.

@Shenkel_Kyle – Where do you think Davon Reed ends up?

Davon Reed, who is ranked No. 92 in CBSSports.com’s top 100, recently trimmed his list to three: Wake Forest, Miami (Fl.) and Xavier. He plans on visiting Wake Forest this weekend, Miami next weekend and Xavier during the first weekend in October. Reed also plans on making his decision at the end of next month. He is a high-academic kid, and that will certainly play a role in his decision. Tough to call right now.

@hickeybuns33 – What is Akron getting in B.J. Gladden?

I like Gladden. He’s a 6-foot-5 wing with good athleticism and a strong build. He can handle the ball effectively and knows how to get to the rim off the bounce. Gladden has a high ceiling, and could end up being one of the better players for the Zips in the coming years.

@dh211 – Did you discuss Elliott Pitts as a top 100?

Pitts was mentioned toward the latter stages of the rankings, but he wasn’t one of the final few left out of the top 100. With that said, I think he improved his stock in a major way over the spring and summer, and Arizona got a player who can make shots and stay under control.

@GreggDoyelCBS – Does this shirt make me look chunky?

I’m assuming you’re referring to one of the many big-logo, big-design T-shirts you own. If so, no way, not chunky. Fit, man. Fit.
