Who's Playing

Miami (Fla.) @ Virginia Tech

Current Records: Miami (Fla.) 14-5; Virginia Tech 10-9

What to Know

After three games on the road, the Virginia Tech Hokies are heading back home. The Hokies and the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes will face off in an ACC battle at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday at Cassell Coliseum. Virginia Tech won both of their matches against Miami (Fla.) last season (80-78 and 80-76) and is aiming for the same result this time around.

Virginia Tech came up short against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday, falling 78-68. Four players on Virginia Tech scored in the double digits: forward Keve Aluma (19), forward Justyn Mutts (18), guard Hunter Cattoor (13), and guard Nahiem Alleyne (10). Mutts hadn't helped his team much against the Boston College Eagles this past Saturday, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

Miami (Fla.) lost a heartbreaker to the Florida State Seminoles when they met earlier this month, and they left with a heavy heart again this past Saturday. The Hurricanes were just a bucket short of a victory and fell 61-60 to FSU. One thing holding Miami (Fla.) back was the mediocre play of guard Charlie Moore, who did not have his best game: he played for 37 minutes with and four turnovers.

Virginia Tech is the favorite in this one, with an expected 5-point margin of victory. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past two games, so buyers beware.

Both of these teams will be looking to put their recent losses behind them and walk away with a win. If Miami (Fla.) want to win, they will need to focus on stopping Virginia Tech's Keve Aluma, who had 19 points in addition to six boards, and Justyn Mutts, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. We'll see whether or not they are up to the challenge.
