Get ready for a Big East battle as the Marquette Golden Eagles and the St. John's Red Storm will face off at 9 p.m. ET this past Saturday at Fiserv Forum. The teams split their matchups last year, with Marquette winning the first 73-71 on the road and St. John's taking the second 75-73.
The Golden Eagles received a tough blow this past Wednesday as they fell 91-80 to the DePaul Blue Demons. Guard Darryl Morsell had a pretty forgettable game, playing for 25 minutes with and four turnovers.
Meanwhile, the Xavier Musketeers typically have all the answers at home, but this past Wednesday the Red Storm proved too difficult a challenge. St. John's took down Xavier 81-66. St. John's can attribute much of their success to guard Tareq Coburn, who shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 20 points and three blocks, and guard Julian Champagnie, who had 19 points in addition to eight rebounds. Coburn had some trouble finding his footing against DePaul last week, so this was a step in the right direction. Coburn's points were the most he has had all year.
The Golden Eagles are the favorite in this one, with an expected 4-point margin of victory. But bettors beware: they are only 3-8 against the spread when favored.
Marquette is now 18-11 while St. John's sits at 16-13.
