Oklahoma will take the field Thursday against Iowa State without running back Joe Mixon, who has been suspended for a violation of team rules.

"OU sets very high standards and they must be met by all of our student-athletes," Bob Stoops said in an official statement.

Mixon, the team's top rusher with 813 yards, has been one of the most dangerous all-purpose threats in the Big 12 this season. The redshirt sophomore has 10 touchdowns scored four different ways this year, including a toss to superstar wide receiver Dede Westbrook.

In a statement, Mixon described an incident with a parking attendant. He said he "did not respond appropriately" and accepts the consequences of his actions.

Mixon's attorney, speaking with NewsOK.com, said the suspension stems from an incident that occurred at 9:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday. Per attorney Blake Johnson, Mixon "was frustrated, as most of us are when we get a ticket" and responded to the citation poorly. "He tore the ticket up in front of the parking attendant and threw it on the ground."

The one-game suspension is not Mixon's first. He was suspended during his first year with the program after a misdemeanor assault charge for striking a female in a bar.

Oklahoma will be thin at running back with Mixon and Samaje Perine (hamstring) out for the game. Freshman Abdul Adams, who has picked up 215 yards on 41 carries this season, is expected to take over as the first-string back for the game.
