Cruz returned Sunday from a one-game layoff to finish his recovery from an illness and went 1-for-3 with an RBI sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single in a win over the Marlins.

Cruz was out of the starting lineup for three of the Rays' last five games while dealing with a non-COVID illness, although he was able to make a pinch-hit appearance Saturday despite initially getting the day off to complete his recovery. However, Cruz's return Sunday, when he took all four possible plate appearances as the designated hitter, seems to confirm he should be able to play as needed over the final games of the regular season before the playoffs start.
