Tapia was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, MLB.com reports.
The Rockies shipped Tapia back to the minors to make room on the active roster for Ian Desmond (calf), who started in left field Monday against the Tigers in his return from the disabled list. Though Tapia's latest stint with the Rockies lasted less than a week, he should rejoin the big club when rosters expand Friday. He'll likely serve as a depth outfielder over the final month of the season.
