Barnes was claimed off waivers by the Royals and optioned to Triple-A Omaha.
The 29-year-old righty logged a 6.86 ERA in 19.2 innings with the Brewers this season and was designated for assignment earlier in the week. He has tallied five saves in his career but will likely just serve as low-leverage organizational bullpen depth.
