Nunez's contract was selected by the Tigers on Wednesday.
Nunez hasn't appeared in the majors since mid-April, and he's slashed .291/.383/.585 with 20 homers, 64 RBI and 60 runs at Triple-A Toledo this season. The 27-year-old will provide depth after Akil Baddoo (concussion) and Derek Hill (ribs) were placed on the injured list.
