  • Red Sox's Miguel Bleis: Shows improving plate discipline

Bleis is batting .200/.313/.309 through 14 games for Low-A Salem. The middling numbers Bleis posted in 2023 continued to start the current season, but there's encouraging signs beneath the slash line. The outfield prospect, a notorious free-swinger, has posted a 12.5 percent walk rate (up from 7.4 percent in 2023) while cutting down on strikeouts (17.2 percent, down from 26.8 percent). Better swing decisions could eventually lead to more promising outcomes.

  • Red Sox's Miguel Bleis: Done for season

Bleis, whom Single-A Salem placed on the 7-day injured list June 1, is soon expected to undergo left shoulder surgery and will miss the rest of the season, Chris Henrique of Beyond the Monster reports. The 19-year-old outfielder will head into the offseason with a .230/.282/.325 slash line, one home run and 11 steals in 31 games in his first exposure to full-season pitching at Single-A Salem. Given the middling production and long layoff, his dynasty value will be trending down over the next year, but Bleis still has loud tools and will return to Salem for his age-20 season.

  • Red Sox's Miguel Bleis: Opening at Single-A

Bleis will report to Single-A Salem for the start of the minor-league season, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports. Bleis will make his debut in full-season ball after he played exclusively in the rookie-level Florida Complex League as an 18-year-old in 2022. The assignment to Salem doesn't come as a surprise after the outfielder proved worthy of a tougher test by slashing .294/.347/.536 with five home runs and 18 stolen bases in 167 plate appearances in the FCL.

  • Red Sox's Miguel Bleis: Shows off Monday

Bleis went 1-for-2 with two RBI in Monday's spring game against the Blue Jays. Boston's highly touted outfield prospect made his second Grapefruit League appearance and first start, and he showed off both his defensive and offensive skills. In the bottom of the first he threw a strike to home plate to nail Brandon Belt by several steps. A half-inning later, Bleis fought off a two-strike fastball in on his hands from Alek Manoah, going the other way to drive in a pair of runs. He also had a fielding miscue, which is a reminder the 19-year-old is still relying on his raw tools. He played 40 games last season in the rookie-level Florida Complex League, batting .301/.543/.896 with 23 extra-base hits and 18 steals. Bleis should get a taste of full-season ball in 2023.
