McDowell is managing a rib injury, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
McDowell exited Sunday's practice with what was originally labeled an oblique issue, but it's now been reclassified as a rib injury. The severity of the injury is unclear, leaving the 25-year-old's availability for Saturday's preseason opener in Jacksonville up in the air.
