The Blackhawks promoted Gilbert from AHL Rockford on Friday.
Lucas Carlsson exited Thursday's win over Edmonton after taking a puck to the head, so Gilbert will be on hand as an insurance policy for Friday's matchup with Detroit. The 23-year-old blueliner has tallied three points in 20 games with the big club this campaign.
