Melnichuk was placed on the taxi squad Tuesday, per CapFriendly.
Melnichuk will serve as the Sharks' No. 3 option in goal behind Adin Hill and Zach Sawchenko while James Reimer (lower body) is on injured reserve. Melnichuk is unlikely to see much playing time at the NHL level.
