Bitetto was traded to the Sharks by the Rangers for Nicholas Merkley on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Bitetto has spent the entire season with AHL Hartford after appearing in 14 games for the Rangers last season. New York acquired fellow defenseman Justin Braun earlier Monday, putting yet another body between Bitetto and a spot in the lineup. Bitetto is expected to report to AHL San Jose.
