Blue Jays reliever Darren Oliver could retire this offseason, according to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.

Oliver has been exceptional again this season. In 55 2/3 innings, he has a 2.10 ERA and a 2.96 FIP. Barring a catastrophic collapse over the next three days, he would finish the season with a sub-three ERA for the fifth straight year.

But at age 41, Oliver is contemplating retirement. He cited family as the main reason for his indecision, saying “every kid needs a father at home. That’s important to me.” The Blue Jays hold a $3 million option on Oliver for next season.

Manager John Farrell said he wants to have Oliver back next year but added that he won’t try to influence Oliver’s decision.
