Reliever Darren Oliver will return to the Blue Jays in 2013, the team announced Wednesday.

Oliver's agent had reportedly asked for a raise on his client's $3 million option. If the team wasn't willing to grant it, Oliver wanted to be dealt to the Rangers. If that didn't happen, Oliver was contemplating retirement.

Instead, Oliver will rejoin the Blue Jays for 2013 in what will be his 20th season in the majors. He made 62 appearances for the team in 2012, going 3-4 with a 2.06 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings.

Oliver has a career 3.13 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 563 1/3 innings as a reliever.
