The Diamondbacks have designated first baseman Lars Anderson for assignment to make room for the Justin Upton trade haul, the club announced Thursday.

Anderson, 25, appeared in just six games with Boston last season. He spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A between the Boston and Cleveland systems, where he combined to hit .250/.353/.396 in 111 games. He spent the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons in the top-100 Baseball America prospect rankings, but he stalled out in the upper minors. He has just a .772 career OPS between Double-A and Triple-A after he posted a .921 OPS at High-A as a 20-year-old.

Arizona acquired Anderson from Cleveland as part of the three-team deal sending Shin-Soo Choo to Cincinnati, Drew Stubbs to Cleveland and Didi Gregorius to Arizona.
