Phillies starting pitcher Jonathan Pettibone does not think he will need an MRI on his strained right shoulder, despite being placed on the disabled list Friday.
Pettibone has been feeling discomfort in the shoulder over his last two starts, and was finally placed on the DL after struggling through a bullpen session Wednesday, according to MLB.com.
The Phillies are also using the DL trip as a chance to give Pettibone some extra rest, as he has thrown 111 2/3 innings between the Majors and minors.
"This is the most he's pitched," manager Charlie Manuel said. "From what I hear, and what I see on the reports, it's nothing too serious yet. We just want to give him a little time, that's all."
