The Reds have signed pitcher Armando Galarraga to a minor-league deal, according to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman.

The 31-year-old pitcher is best known for nearly throwing a perfect game, only to have an umpire incorrectly called the runner safe on what should have been the 27th and final out. Galarraga pitched 24 innings for the Astros last season, ending with a 6.75 ERA and a 7.43 FIP in five starts.

A six-year veteran, Galarraga pitched three seasons with the Tigers, where he threw the near perfecto in 2010. He’s also played for the Rangers and Diamondbacks. He will compete for a rotation spot that is already crowded with candidates, especially if the Reds are persistent about converting Aroldis Chapman to a starter.
