The White Sox and Mariners are discussing trade scenarios involving Dayan Viciedo, reports Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago. Chicago is not actively shopping the outfielder, but they are willing to listen to offers.
According to Levine, Seattle has had top talent evaluates Ted Simmons and Pete Vuckovich scout Viciedo recently. The Mariners are looking to add some right-handed pop to the lineup and were interested in Nelson Cruz before he signed with the Orioles.
Viciedo, who turns 25 on Monday, hit .265/.304/.426 (94 OPS+) with 14 home runs last season, with better numbers against righties (.738 OPS) than lefties (.709 OPS). In his two full seasons as a big leaguer, he's hit .260/.302/.436 (96 OPS+) with 41 doubles and 39 homers in 271 games.
The White Sox acquired center fielder Adam Eaton over the winter and right fielder Avisail Garcia at last year's trade deadline, pushing Viciedo into a left field platoon with Alejandro De Aza. The Mariners currently have Dustin Ackley and Corey Hart slated to flank Abraham Almonte and Michael Saunders in the outfield corners.
