Great debut at-bat for Mr. Rodriguez. (Getty Images)

When the Padres were forced to place hot-hitting rookie catcher Yasmani Grandal on the disabled list earlier this week, they need to promote a catcher. They called upon a guy named Eddy Rodriguez from High-A Lake Elsinore.

That's right, Eddy Rodriguez was promoted all the way from Class A to the bigs in one fell swoop. Not that he'd never been higher in the minors. He had all of 100 career plate appearances in Double-A and a whopping 21 plate appearances in Triple-A.

Fast-forward to Thursday, and Rodriguez was digging in against Johnny Cueto of the Reds for his first career at-bat. Yes, the same Johnny Cueto who entered Thursday sporting a 2.35 ERA combined in 2011 and 2012.

All Rodriguez did was send a shot 416 feet into the left-center field stands of Great American Ball Park. has the video.

Congrats are in order for Mr. Rodriguez. It doesn't get much better than that.
