The Tigers will bring back outfielder Brennan Boesch, but he’ll have to compete for a role, according to MLive.com’s Chris Iott.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski confirmed that the team will tender Boesch a contract. Boesch is eligible for arbitration for the first time in his career and will likely be due a raise. The 27-year-old outfielder made $500,000 last season.

But after hitting .240/.286/.372 in 503 plate appearances, Boesch isn’t guaranteed a role on the team next season. The Tigers plan to have Austin Jackson in center, but both of the other outfield slots are question marks. The team has Andy Dirks, Quintin Berry, Avisail Garcia and, potentially, prospect Nick Castellanos; each of whom could contend with Boesch for one of those spots. Iott suggests the team could also seek a corner outfielder in free agency, or on the trade market.
