The Twins announced Thursday they have signed right-handed relief pitcher Jared Burton to a two-year extension worth a guaranteed $5.5 million that includes a 2015 club option.

Burton will earn $2.05 million in 2013 and $3.25 million in 2014. His $3.6 million option for 2015 includes a $200,000 buyout.

The 31-year-old Burton went 3-2 with a 2.18 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 55 strikeouts and five saves in 62 innings during the 2012 season, his first year with the Twins. He initially signed with Minnesota in November 2011 after pitching for the Reds for the previous five seasons.
