Lisalverto Bonilla: Heads to Korea
Bonilla's contract was purchased by the Samsung Lions of the KBO on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Bonilla signed a minor-league contract with the Indians in mid-December and was a non-roster invitee for spring training. At 27 years old, it wasn't unimaginable for him to grab a spot at the back end of Cleveland's bullpen, but far-fetched nonetheless. He heads to Korea after 10 major-league appearances with the Reds last season, finishing with an ERA of 8.10 over 36.2 innings.

Indians' Lisalverto Bonilla: Joins Indians on minor-league deal
Bonilla (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Indians on Monday, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports.
Bonilla spent the majority of last season with the Reds before being cut loose at the start of September. He split time between Triple-A Louisville and the big club, posting a respectable 3.59 ERA across 62.2 innings with the Bats, but struggled to an 8.10 ERA across 36.2 innings with Cincinnati. Assuming he's over the elbow issue that sidelined him towards the end of last season, the 27-year-old will get a shot to compete for a roster spot in spring training, though he'll likely open the season as organizational pitching depth.

Reds' Lisalverto Bonilla: Released by Reds
Bonilla (elbow) was released by the Reds on Friday.
Bonilla has been out for just over three weeks while dealing with right elbow inflammation, and will now be looking for a new home after being released by Cincinnati prior to Friday's game against the Pirates. During 10 appearances, and four starts, for the club this season, the right-hander had posted a 8.10 ERA and 1.75 WHIP with just a 28:22 K:BB in 36.2 innings. Even if the 27-year-old were to latch on with another club over the course of the next couple weeks, he may be forced to miss the rest of the 2017 season due to the elbow injury.

Reds' Lisalverto Bonilla: Dealing with elbow inflammation
Bonilla has been sidelined since Aug. 6 with right elbow inflammation, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
The reason behind Bonilla's placement on the 10-day disabled list earlier this month was initially unclear, but manager Bryan Price recently noted that an MRI revealed the right-hander was nursing an elbow issue. There haven't been any reports that Bonilla has resumed a throwing program, and with just over a month remaining on the season, it's possible we've seen the last of the 27-year-old until next campaign.

Bonilla (undisclosed) was placed on the 10-day DL on Thursday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Bonilla got the call to the majors Sunday, when he surrendered three earned runs across 2.2 innings. He hasn't pitched since, and the team now needs his roster spot to make way for the activation of Devin Mesoraco (paternity). The Reds did not disclose a specific ailment, but with no prior mention of injury, it seems unlikely this is a long-term concern. There's a chance Bonilla returns to long relief when eligible next Wednesday.

This move is a direct result of Robert Stephenson (shoulder) landing on the disabled list. However, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer notes that Bonilla will not likely slot into his spot in the rotation but rather act as a long reliever until Stephenson's spot comes back around. Between this news and his 7.94 ERA on the season, Bonilla makes for a relatively unattractive fantasy option despite the promotion.

Luis Castillo was the only starter to give the Reds more than 4.1 innings during the Nationals' four-game sweep of Cincinnati, so Bonilla will move up to the big-league roster to provide a fresh arm for a taxed bullpen. With long reliever Asher Wojciechowski forced to cover five frames Monday in relief of injured starter Scott Feldman and unlikely to be available for at least two or three days, Bonilla could be in store for ample usage during the Reds' three-game set with the Diamondbacks that kicks off Tuesday.

Bonilla was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Bonilla was sent back to Louisville to clear room on the roster for Brandon Finnegan (shoulder), who was activated from the disabled list and is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Cardinals. The 27-year-old Bonilla has compiled a 7.59 ERA and 25:17 K:BB through 32 big-league innings this season (eight appearances, four starts). He'll head back to the minors and continue to develop as a starter.

Bonilla isn't a candidate to start Friday's game against the Nationals and will instead serve as a long reliever for the big club, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The Reds decided to designate fifth starter Asher Wojciechowski for assignment as part of a wave of transactions Sunday. Although Bonilla was called up from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move, his addition was made with replenishing the bullpen in mind. Bonilla previously made four starts for the big club, but his 7.43 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 17:16 K:BB over 26.2 innings made manager Bryan Price reluctant to give him another trial in the rotation. Instead, it's likely that the Reds will call up one of Cody Reed or Robert Stephenson from Louisville to make a spot start Friday before Homer Bailey (elbow) is likely ready to join the rotation the following week.

Reds' Lisalverto Bonilla: Another shaky start Wednesday
Bonilla (0-2) gave up three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings but came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Cleveland. He struck out two.
A two-hour rain delay prevented Bonilla from going any deeper into the game, as he'd thrown only 80 pitches (46 strikes) before the skies opened up. The 26-year-old has given up at least one homer and walked at least two batters in all four of his appearances for the Reds this season, a combination which doesn't lend itself to success, but until the team gets some other arms back from the DL he'll likely hang onto his spot in the rotation. Bonilla's next start is scheduled for Monday in Toronto.

Reds' Lisalverto Bonilla: Struggles in loss Friday
Bonilla allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks in a 12-6 loss to the Rockies on Friday. He struck out three and hit a batter.
It was a disappointing effort for the 26-year-old, who was coming off a complete game in a loss to San Francisco last week. Since joining the rotation on April 22, Bonilla has had a tough time with his command to the tune of a 14:8 K:BB over 18.1 innings. It took him 105 pitches to get through 5.1 innings in this contest. He's scheduled to take the mound again in another tough matchup Wednesday at Cleveland.

Reds' Lisalverto Bonilla: Goes eight strong in complete-game loss
Bonilla (0-1) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters over eight innings during Saturday's loss to San Francisco.
This was an impressive outing from the 26-year-old righty, and Bonilla will likely make another start as a result. However, he posted a 5.10 ERA over 217 innings at the Triple-A level, and just 19 of his 94 appearances were starts. The Giants lineup isn't imposing, either. Still, he's worth keeping tabs on. Bonilla lines up to make a home start against the Rockies next weekend.

With Rookie Davis heading back to the minors, a major-league rotation spot opened up for Bonilla to take. The 26-year-old was touched up for four runs in five innings in his lone appearance in Cincinnati this season, and although his ERA with the Bats doesn't show too much promise either (5.61 in five starts), he's striking out over a batter per inning at both levels. Bonilla is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Louisville to start Saturday's game against the Giants, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The Reds aren't expected to confirm Bonilla's promotion until he's first needed Saturday, but all indications are that he'll join the rotation for at least the short term in place of Rookie Davis, who was demoted to Louisville on Wednesday. Bonilla, a waiver pickup via the Pirates in February, made one appearance for the big club in long relief April 22 against the Cubs, surrendering four runs over five innings and striking out six batters. The 26-year-old hasn't fared much better at Louisville (5.61 ERA, 1.79 WHIP in 25.2 innings) this season, making it difficult to get excited about his prospects of sticking with the Reds for an extended period of time.
