  • Nick Buss: Released by Twins

Buss was cut loose by Minnesota on Thursday, Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage reports.

Buss was unable to sustain his high level of play from 2017, when he hit .348/.395/.541 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI for Triple-A El Paso within the Padres' system. Though that was to be expected, his regression has been more dramatic than anticipated, and the organization elected to let go of the 31-year-old.

Although he'll likely open the year at Triple-A Rochester, Buss could see time in the Show if he has another impressive showing at the plate. Buss went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a stolen base in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The first homer of Buss' big league career came off a low knuckleball from R.A Dickey in the second inning.
