The Angels were forced to shake up the 40-man roster after buying Jose Valdez from the Tigers, and Jones ended up being the odd man out. The left-hander was experiencing a fair amount of difficulties as a starter with Triple-A Salt Lake, as he sported 7.33 ERA and 1.74 WHIP prior to getting booted off the 40-man, so he'll likely be limited to acting as organizational pitching depth going forward.

Angels' Chris Jones: Optioned to Triple-A
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.
The lefty reliever will head back to the minors after a two-day stint with the big league roster that led to zero appearances out of the bullpen. He has had some struggles in his nine starts at Triple-A Salt Lake this season, notching a 6.32 ERA with 31 strikeouts and 14 walks across 47.0 innings of work. He figures to rejoin the rotation down at Salt Lake, but if he's recalled again later in the season, he'd likely be used out of the bullpen.

Angels' Chris Jones: Called up to majors
Jones was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.
Jones arrived in the Angels' organization via a late-March trade, and has since posted a 6.32 ERA and .323 opponent batting average through nine starts in the minors. Those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, however, as Jones has been pitching in the Pacific Coast League, which is well-regarded for being exceptionally hitter-friendly. Now in the majors, look for the left-hander to be utilized primarily in long relief.

Jones was traded to the Angels on Tuesday in exchange for Natanael Delgado and Erick Salcedo.
The 27-year-old Jones recently lost his spot on the Orioles' 40-man roster, but the Angels will welcome him aboard to boost their organizational pitching depth. Jones turned in a fine season at Triple-A Norfolk last year, posting a 2.94 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 150 innings on the strength of sharp control rather than overpowering stuff.

Orioles' Chris Jones: Designated for assignment Wednesday
Jones was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Wednesday.
Jones was removed from the 40-man roster to open a spot for Zach Phillips. He struck out just 105 batters in 150 innings with Triple-A Norfolk last season, but he throws from the left side and owns a 3.35 career minor league ERA, so he could generate some interest on the waiver wire.

Orioles' Chris Jones: Optioned to minor league camp
Jones was reassigned to minor league camp Monday, MASN Sports reports.
Jones made three spring appearances and allowed three runs -- two earned -- in 3.1 innings, with four strikeouts. He should begin the season at Triple-A. The Orioles clearly value Jones since they added him to the major league roster in November. The bullpen situation in Baltimore is crowded, but Jones could make his debut this season.
