Knicks to sign general manager Scott Perry to contract extension, per report

Perry has been with the Knicks since 2017

The New York Knicks are signing current general manager Scott Perry to a contract extension, per The Athletic's Shams Charania. After New York dismissed team president Steve Mills in February 2020, it was unclear if Perry would remain general manager once a new president of basketball operations was hired. However, after Leon Rose came in as the new president, he kept Perry on and he's been an important part of the Knicks' rebuild.

The Knicks are coming off a season in which the team made its first playoff appearance since 2013, and franchise centerpiece Julius Randle's star began to rise after being named an All-Star for the first time in his seven-year career, as well as earning the league's Most Improved Player award. 

Although New York lost in the first round of the postseason to the Atlanta Hawks, it was a turning point for a franchise that has been the butt of every joke for the better part of a decade. Perry has helped slowly rebuild the Knicks' reputation as one of the premier franchises in the league, so it's not surprising that the organization is planning on keeping him around. 

After an impressive season that also saw Tom Thibodeau win Coach of the Year for New York, the Knicks enter free agency with significant money to spend. However, the difference this time around is that when a rumor starts about the Knicks being interested in a star player, it actually might happen.
