Broncos hold on

Even after Will Lutz' 51-yard field goal, the Broncos looked as though they would let another game slip through their hands. A short pass to A.J. Dillion ended up going for 29 yards and set the Packers up in Denver territory, and all they needed was a field goal to emerge victorious. But then the Broncos defense stepped up. Dillion rush no gain. Offensive holding penalty. Incomplete pass to Christian Watson. Facing a third-and-20, Jordan Love decided to go deep to Samori Toure, but P.J. Locke made him pay by coming over to corral the game-sealing interception. For Denver, it marks its second victory of the year. For Green Bay, it's yet another poor game from Jordan Love.

Mecole Hardman makes big plays in return to Kansas City

On Tuesday, Mecole Hardman was a hardly used New York Jet. By Sunday, he was back making big plays in Kansas City. With the Chiefs holding on to a seven-point advantage, Hardman's 50-yard punt return immediately put them in field goal range. Then, on third-and-six, Hardman made his only catch of the afternoon for a first down. On the very next play, Patrick Mahomes' passing score to Isiah Pacheco secured the team's sixth straight win.

The Chiefs offense has been underwhelming for much of the season, but trading for Hardman could be the piece it needs to start producing more consistently.

Fourth-down tipped-pass touchdown!

Sometimes it pays to be lucky, and Jordan Love was SO lucky on this touchdown pass to Jayden Reed. On fourth-and-2 from the Denver four-yard line, Love dropped his arm angle in attempting to find Romeo Doubs. The only problem was he whipped the ball so fast that Doubs couldn't handle it. So, the ball went through Doubs hands, but it landed right in the arms of the rookie Reed for the go-ahead score midway through the fourth quarter.

Matt Canada cooking

Matt Canada is the Steelers offensive coordinator who has caught a lot of heat this season for the team's issues on that side of the ball. Well, I don't know what changed, but the past two possessions were the best Pittsburgh has looked offensively all season. It racked up 139 yards on 15 plays and scored two touchdowns -- with Najee Harris punching in his first of the season to put the Steelers in front.

Packers have life

The Packers looked lifeless for nearly three quarters Sunday, but they're coming to life just in time. Denver had just extended its lead to double digits on the previous possession, only for Green Bay to respond with a 75-yard drive of its own. Romeo Doubs made the touchdown catch, wrestling the ball from a Broncos defensive back to ensure a much-needed six points for the Packers.

Johnson, Warren slice through Rams defense

The Steelers sorely missed Diontae Johnson over the past month as he dealt with an injury, but Johnson is back and making plays again. The biggest one was this 39-yard pickup on a great route and then some dazzling after-the-catch moves to set his team up in the red zone.

Two plays later, Jaylen Warren burst through the line and into the end zone to tie the game at 17.

Broncos taking it to the Packers

The Packers are in trouble against the Broncos, even more so now that Russell Wilson just found Courtland Sutton for the 18-yard score. Green Bay now in a 13-point hole.

Chiefs giveth and then taketh back

There's been two possessions in the second half between the Chiefs and Chargers, and they've both ended with turnovers deep in opposing territory. Trying to go up two scores, the Kansas City gave the ball back on a Blake Bell fumble. Now Los Angeles had a chance to tie, and it got down to the eight-yard line before a batted pass led to a L'Jarius Sneed interception. Two exciting possessions, but zero points as the Chiefs still hold a 24-17 advantage.

Mahomes putting up massive numbers vs. Chargers

Despite a 5-1 start, the Chiefs offense has been underwhelming. Could the Chargers defense be the remedy? That definitely was the case in the first half Sunday. Here are Mahomes' eye-popping stats during the opening 30 minutes:

  • 20 of 23 passing
  • 321 yards
  • One interception
  • Three touchdowns (to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce)

Mahomes' favorite target, Travis Kelce, has been just as dominant as his quarterback. He's racked up nine receptions for 143 yards and a touchdown ... in the first half! It also marked the 50th touchdown between Mahomes and Kelce, yet another accomplishment for what's been a nearly unstoppable duo over the past several years.

If Mahomes can somehow match his first-half statistics, he would shatter the single-game passing yards record set by Norm Van Brocklin way back in 1951. Van Brocklin racked up 554 yards, meaning Mahomes would need 234 more yards to break the all-time mark.

Stafford's prayer answered

Matthew Stafford won't tell you this, but he was definitely looking for Cooper Kupp on the left side of the end zone at the end of the first half. That probably would have ended poorly, as two Steelers blanketed him in coverage, but then Tutu Atwell came out of nowhere to make the jumping catch at the one-yard line. With both defenders on Kupp, Atwell walked across the goal line to put the Rams ahead.

Bobo toe-touch TD

No DK Metcalf, no problem for the Seahawks. First Geno Smith found first-round rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the 28-yard score. Then, with the clock winding down in the first half, Smith threw it up to undrafted rookie Jake Bobo and hoped for the best. Initially ruled out of bounds, Bobo was miraculously able to get both of his feet in to complete the go-ahead 18-yard touchdown.

Chargers strike back (again)

Ninety-one seconds after Patrick Mahomes' second touchdown, Justin Herbert threw his first, finding Gerald Everett for the seven-yard score to tie things up at 17. The big play on the drive was the 60-yard catch-and-run from Josh Palmer.

First-and-25 TD!

Now here's something you rarely see. An unnecessary roughness penalty on D. J. Humphries not only led to him being ejected, but it also backed up the Cardinals 15 yards on first-and-goal. Turns out it didn't matter, as Joshua Dobbs kept the ball on a zone read and rumbled between Seahawks defenders and into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.

Chargers strike back!

Do we have a shootout on our hands with Taylor Swift in attendance in Kansas City? We've got 20 points in 20 minutes of game action, with the most recent score coming on Joshua Kelley's 49-yard burst up the middle.

Mahomes cooking early vs. Chargers

Despite a 5-1 start, the Chiefs offense has been underwhelming. Could the Chargers defense be the remedy? It looks that way just over a quarter into game action. On Kansas City's first two possessions, Patrick Mahomes completed 10 of his 11 passes for 150 yards and this strike to Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a 46-yard score.

Fourth-and-goal game-winning TD

A questionable pass interference call in the end zone gave the Browns first-and-goal from the one-yard line, and after three straight incompletions, the Browns kept it on the ground. P.J. Walker handed it off to Kareem Hunt, who BARELY broke the plane to put Cleveland back ahead with just 15 seconds to go. The Browns win an absolutely wild game to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Giants hold on

Make that three 1-5 teams that secured wins Sunday. The Giants, behind backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, did just enough on offense -- and a great job on defense -- to secure their second victory of the season. The Commanders had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes, but turned the ball over on downs from the New York seven-yard line.

Game-winning FG!

Desmond Ridder did his best to lose the game for the Falcons, but with the game on the line, he delivered. Ridder led a five-play, 42-yard drive -- the highlight being a 39-yard catch-and-run from tight end Kyle Pitts -- to set up Younghoe Koo for a long field-goal attempt. And from 51 yards out, Koo was true, lifting Atlanta to 4-3 and in first place in the NFC South.

PATRIOTS WIN

What a gutsy performance from Mac Jones and the previously 1-5 Patriots. I say previously because New England, as a 7.5-point underdog, took a double-digit lead against the Bills, gave up said double-digit lead, and then scored the game-winning touchdown with 12 seconds to play. Mike Gesicki was the hero thanks to his one-yard touchdown catch, but Mac Jones was the real MVP thanks to a 25-of-30, 272-yard, three-touchdown performance to upset their division rivals.

And to add to the drama, it marked Bill Belichick's 300th win!

Bills lead!

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Bills trailed, 22-10, and looked like they were going to lose as massive favorites. Then Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs came alive. First it was a Diggs touchdown from 25 yards out. Then the Patriots fumbled. That set up the Bills with good field position, and they went ahead by three on Allen's quarterback sneak (and subsequent two-point conversion).

Pick-six

Good for Tyson Bagent, and good for the Chicago Bears, who put the finishing touches on a dominating win with Jaylon Johnson's pick-six of Brian Hoyer.

Desmond Ridder is NOT it

I think we've seen enough to conclude that Desmond Ridder is not the quarterback to maximize the Falcons' potential. Following a three-interception performance in a loss to the Commanders, the second-year quarterback is doing his best to lose the Buccaneers game as well. He's driven the Falcons inside the Tampa Bay 15-yard line on three of the past five possessions -- only to lose fumbles on ALL OF THEM. The Falcons could be up double digits! Instead, the Buccaneers have life only down three.

Gibbs finds the end zone

Usually, I wouldn't be writing about a 35-0 game. But this is a highlights story, and Jahmyr Gibbs' first-career touchdown qualifies as a highlight. The Lions rookie running back took the pitch to the left, turned upfield and darted past everyone (untouched) for the 21-yard score. It won't make a difference, but it could provide some confidence for the dual-threat rusher out of Alabama.

Mac Jones delivering

The Patriots have only been this big of home underdogs a few times in the past two decades, but they're certainly not playing like it. Mac Jones has been awesome for New England, missing just three of his 21 attempts for 199 yards and this huge touchdown pass to Kendrick Bourne to extend the lead to 22-10.

All-time bad dropped INT

Aidan Hutchinson has shown that he's one of the best defensive lineman in the NFL when it comes to making interceptions. Kayvon Thibodeaux, the second edge rusher taken after Hutchinson in the 2022 NFL Draft, could ... umm ... use some pointers. He had a potential pick-six RIGHT IN HIS HANDS. And he just dropped it.

Lamar Jackson makes MVP case

The Ravens quarterback has absolutely carved up a solid Lions defense on Sunday. Midway through the third quarter, here are his stats:

  • 19-for-23 passing for 343 yards, three TDs and a perfect 158.3 rating
  • Eight rushes for 26 yards and a score

Baltimore is for real, folks -- and Jackson is the biggest reason why.

Foreman x3

Of all the players to score three touchdowns Sunday, I doubt anyone would have guessed D'Onta Foreman. Well, the former Panthers running back has done just that Sunday for the Bears, who have taken it to the Raiders and backup quarterback Brian Hoyer. There's still time left, but it's looking good for undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent, from Division II Shepherd, to earn his first career NFL win.

Myles Garrett is UNSTOPPABLE

The Browns defense has been historically good through five games, and the biggest reason why is Myles Garrett. He's been an absolute wrecking ball in the first half against the Colts, first making a freakishly athletic play to block a punt (see below) and then stripping Gardner Minshew in the end zone that resulted in a Browns touchdown. He was one of the frontrunners for Defensive Player of the Year entering Sunday, and he's only strengthened his case in only 30 minutes of game action.

Deshaun Watson clears concussion protocol, but P.J. Walker stays in

While throwing an incompletion in the first quarter, Deshaun Watson took a big hit and then smacked his head on the ground, which resulted in him staying down while trainers came out to look at him. He ended up walking off and going into the medical tent, and the Browns later announced that he cleared concussion protocol. However, P.J. Walker has remained in the game at quarterback while Watson watches from the sideline holding his helmet. Watson's current stat line is 1-for-5 passing for five yards and an interception.

Minshew mania

Who needs Jonathan Taylor and Zach Moss when you have Gardner Minshew slicing and dicing defenders with his legs? Not known as a runner, Minshew already has two touchdowns as the Colts take a 21-17 lead over the Browns in a surprise shootout.
