INDIANAPOLIS -- The Panthers aren't in a huge rush to hand out a new deal to Cam Newton, but it's definitely an elephant in the room with Newton about to hit his fifth-year option deal.

In an interview with CBSSports.com from the NFL combine, Panthers general manager confirmed the Panthers want to do a deal with Newton but said they need to find a "win-win" situation in order to get something done.

"I think it takes two to tango. It is ... you know, you obviously want to get to a win-win," Gettleman said. "You want a deal they're happy with and that you can live with, that you're happy with. If you're upset before the ink is dry on the signatures then you made a bad deal, so it's a matter of getting to the right place. We believe in Cam and we think it's our future, so when it gets done it gets done."

It's hard to imagine Newton leaving Charlotte: Look at this year's crop of free agent quarterbacks and the draft class to easily determine how hard it is to find a good quarterback.

But Gettleman also knows there's no real rush for the Panthers. They have Newton's fifth-year option in 2015 and can franchise tag him in 2016 if they need to.

There's also nuances when it comes to this deal, what with the market constantly changing for the price of a "franchise quarterback."

Either way expect a deal for Newton at some point. As Gettleman said, he's the future.
