With Carson Palmer out for the rest of the season with the broken ribs and bruised lung he suffered in Week 16 and with the season lost anyway, the Raiders announced Friday they’ll start Terrelle Pryor at quarterback in their finale Sunday against the Chargers.
It's an interesting choice, considering Pryor has played in just two games in his two-year career and has thrown just two passes. When Palmer went out with his injury last week, it wasn’t Pryor who came in to replace him. It was Matt Leinart -- who probably isn’t pleased he’s been passed over for the Week 17 starting duty.
Either way, this is what coach Dennis Allen said Monday about Pryor’s readiness to run the offense.
"Terrelle's done a nice job,” he said, via CSN Bay Area. “He's working extremely hard. We don't feel like he's ready to be the backup quarterback yet, and we feel like Matt would give us the best chance."
So, four days ago, Pryor wasn’t ready to be the team's backup quarterback. Now, he’s ready to be the starter. Man, that must have been four awfully productive days for Pryor.
"He gives us a unique element of athleticism at the quarterback position," Allen told reporters Friday, via CBSSports.com's Eric Gilmore. “"I think he deserves an opportunity to get out there and see what he can do."
As for Leinart? Well, this commercial pretty much says it all.
