PHOTO: Ilya Bryzgalov's new Wild mask features 'Sonic' characters
Ilya Bryzgalov's new mask with the Minnesota Wild includes characters from his children's favorite video game: "Sonic the Hedgehog."
Ilya Bryzgalov has had to go through a lot of mask designs over the last year or so. Each one has been different from the last. With most of them, his kids have been in some way involved with the design and that’s true for his most recent lid with the Minnesota Wild.
According to InGoalMag.com, Stephane Bergeron of Griff Airbrush adapted drawings from Bryzgalov’s kids of characters from the “Sonic the Hedgehog” video game on both sides of the mask. It also includes the Wild logo at the top and the typical “Bryz” across the chin.
Here’s a look at the new bucket via Bergeron’s Facebook page.
A unique mask for a unique goalie.
Bryzgalov’s last designed mask with the Oilers actually featured exact replicas of things his kids drew. So this is a little less second-grade and personal than that, but it still includes a piece of his kids on his mask. It must be great for his little ones to see their ideas show up on their dad’s mask.
The 33-year-old goaltender has gone 4-3-1 in his first eight appearances with the Wild, with a .911 save percentage and 2.11 goals-against average.
