Georgia Tech freshman point guard Travis Jorgenson will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, the school announced Thursday.
Jorgenson suffered the injury during the second half of Wednesday’s loss to Dayton. He underwent an MRI on Thursday and will have surgery within the next two weeks.
“This is unfortunate for Travis and a loss for us,” head coach Brian Gregory said in a statement. “He had put in a lot of work and was poised to have a very good freshman year. But we know he’s going to get the best treatment and rehab possible, and with his work ethic, he’ll make a full recovery and be back on the court next year.”
Jorgenson, a 6-foot-0 Missouri native, was averaging 4.3 points and 2.5 assists in just under 20 minutes per game so far this season. He was playing primarily a backup role to Tennessee transfer Trae Golden and sophomore Solomon Poole, who have started all four games in the backcourt.
The Yellow Jackets (3-1) host North Carolina A&T on Sunday.
