Notre Dame added a big offensive weapon for the upcoming class on Thursday as Naples (Fla.) tight end Mike Heuerman committed to the Irish.

"Officially committed to play football for the University of Notre Dame," Heuerman tweeted.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder held offers from schools such as Miami, LSU andOhio State. The Buckeyes were a school that came in late but presented intrigue because Heuerman's brother, Jeff, is a tight end on the squad. Two late visits to South Bend simply gave the younger Heuerman a feeling about the Irish and prompted him to pull the trigger.

"I hope all will respect my decision as I went thru this process and will see life in my eyes," he tweeted.

The pledge from Heuerman gives Notre Dame a dozen commitments for the class of 2013. As a junior last year he caught 23 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns.
