Slegers was designated for assignment, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
The Pirates had to select a couple contracts to round out the 25-man roster, and Slegers was one of the 40-man roster casualties. He could return to Triple-A if he passes through waivers.
