Detwiler opted out of his contract with the Athletics on Sunday and will become a free agent, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Detwiler was informed that he would not make the team's Opening Day roster, so he decided to exercise the opt-out in his contract. He'll likely find another home in 2017.
