Wang was added to the Royals' 40-man roster on Sunday, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.
Count the soon-to-be 36-year-old as one of the surprise inclusions on Opening Day rosters, as his days in the majors appeared to be over after he languished in the minors in two organizations a season ago, posting a 6.10 ERA over 62 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett and a 5.69 ERA over 68 innings at Triple-A Tacoma. However, the soft-tossing right-hander made the most of his non-roster invite to Royals spring training, producing a 2.40 ERA and 9:2 K:BB over 15 innings. He'll likely serve as the long man out of the Royals' bullpen to open the season.
