Walsh signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training. The Cardinals cut Walsh loose last July after he developed a nerve issue in his pitching arm, but the right-hander is evidently healthy now. Arm problems are nothing new for the 28-year-old, but he's collected a 2.69 ERA and 25.7 percent strikeout rate in the minors when healthy.... See More ... See Less

Jake Walsh: Let go by St. Louis
The Cardinals granted Walsh his unconditional release Sunday while he recovers from an unspecified nerve issue in his arm, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Triple-A Memphis placed Walsh on its 7-day injured list earlier Sunday before the Cardinals elected to grant him his walking papers shortly thereafter. Though the 28-year-old possessed a spot on the 40-man roster, he had pitched exclusively in the minors in 2023, logging a 5.28 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 30.2 innings out of the Memphis bullpen. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Taylor Motter, whose contract was selected from Triple-A on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Sent to Triple-A Memphis
Walsh was optioned Saturday to Triple-A Memphis by the Cardinals, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Walsh made only three appearances for the Cardinals last year while allowing four runs in 2.2 innings of work for a 13.50 ERA. He'll likely be an up-and-down arm for St. Louis, providing more organizational depth than any chance for fantasy significance in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Healthy for offseason
Triple-A Memphis reinstated Walsh (elbow) from its 7-day injured list Oct. 6. Walsh closed the 2022 campaign on Memphis' IL while recovering from a right elbow injury, but he looks like he's been fully cleared in the early stages of the offseason, The 27-year-old right-hander, who currently occupies a spot on the Cardinals' 40-man roster, posted a 1.17 ERA and 1.19 WHIP while striking out 22 in 15.1 innings for Memphis prior to being shut down with the injury.... Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Shut down for six weeks
Walsh was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list due to a right elbow injury June 7. Walsh has been sidelined for several weeks, and he received a PRP injection in his right elbow Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The right-hander will be shut down for approximately six weeks, and it's not yet clear whether he'll return to game action prior to the end of the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Optioned to Triple-A
Walsh was sent back down to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Walsh was called up Sunday but failed to pitch in the team's win over the Cubs before being sent back to Memphis on Tuesday. The reliever will return to Triple-A where he owns a 1.20 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 22 punchouts over 15 frames in 12 appearances this season. The move cleared a roster spot for Tyler O'Neill (shoulder), who was activated off the 10-day injured list Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Back in majors
Walsh was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. Walsh gave up four runs without recording an out in his last big-league appearance. He should work in low-leverage situations.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Hit hard, takes loss
Walsh (0-1) took the loss Wednesday versus the Mets. He allowed four runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batter while failing to record an out. Walsh relieved Jordan Hicks in the fifth inning, but the Mets were able to rally off the 26-year-old reliever. Prior to Wednesday, Walsh had allowed just one hit and one walk over 2.2 innings, so this one can be chalked up to a bit of bad luck against a strong team. The right-hander will likely continue to see mostly low-leverage assignments while in the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jake Walsh: Recalled by Cardinals
Walsh was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. Walsh failed to make the Cardinals' Opening Day roster this year, but he posted a strong 0.82 ERA, 16:5 K:BB and 1.00 WHIP in 11 innings over nine relief appearances in Memphis to begin the season. The right-hander hasn't yet made his major-league debut but will join the Cardinals' bullpen after Kodi Whitley was sent down Wednesday.... See More ... See Less

David O'Brien@DOBrienATL11M agoSeems like just about every ERA leader this season has had his one blow-up game, and today is Sale's -- six runs on seven hits through two innings, including Andujar's 3-run homer on a 94.1 mph FB on 1-2 count, a pitch left over the middle. #Braves trail 6-2 after two.

David O'Brien@DOBrienATL2H agoMost of us thought the #Braves had one of MLB's best 1-2 starting-pitcher combos entering the season in Strider & Fried. Well, statistically speaking, they do have one of the best 1-2 combos through the first two months: López (1.73 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) & Sale (2.12 ERA, 0.85 WHIP).
