Elam fell on his knee during Saturday's preseason win over the Colts and will need surgery to clean out the issue as a result.

The injury isn't season-ending according to coach John Harbaugh, but it should keep the Ravens' safety out for an extended period of time. Elam's absence won't have too much of an impact in terms of the team's secondary, with Eric Weddle and Lardarius Webb positioned as the starting safeties. A timetable for Elam's recovery should become available following surgery.
